Researcher on a Quest to Personalize Learning Brings STEM to Houston Suburbs
Morrisville, NC and Cypress, TX 9/10/18 –
” Being a mom of two sweet girls, I want to help my daughters get the best possible education. I believe that early STEM education is the best way to help our kids succeed”, says Dr. Misha Chakraborty, aka Dr. C, lecturer, researcher and now STEM For Kids’ franchisee in the west suburbs of Houston, Texas.
Dr. C was motivated by her strong desire to find the best educational opportunities in STEM for her daughters. Her research led her to STEM For Kids. She said, “instead of enforcing kids to choose programming or robotics, the holistic approach of STEM for Kids allows them to choose the path they like”.
One of the grand engineering challenges of our era is to advance personalized learning[*]. Fueled by the increasing demand of technology savvy, geographically separated diverse learners coupled with developments in computing, there is an unprecedented growth in the use of technology-based environments within education. E-learning also called virtual learning, web-based learning and more recently mobile learning, offer ways to achieve that. Dr C got first-hand experience with designing and developing many online classes as a technology teaching assistant in the department of Educational Administration and Human Resource Development. Her close encounters with students’ participation, issues and strengths in online classes got her interested in the area of online engagement to look for strategies to create positive learning experiences for virtual learners.
As a researcher at Texas A&M University, Dr. C focused on determining factors involved in achieving positive learning environment for all students. Currently, Dr. C is a lecturer in the College of Technology department at the University of Houston. She teaches her students how to use the latest technology in education and how to do educational research and training using sophisticated technological tools.
“The ‘aha’ moment of student is the best reward that I get as an instructor. Through my research and work, I know that there is an ever-increasing demand of knowledgeable and skilled workforce. Experiences with modern tools like Python, Java, Internet of Things(IoT) and automation can definitely provide competitive advantages to our kids” , says Dr. C.
As a franchisee, Dr. C has a comprehensive and growing portfolio of engaging curriculum ranging from coding to engineering, biomedicine, robotics, automation and business, to bring the needed experiences for children in the West Houston suburbs of Cypress, Katy, Richmond and Sugar Land.
Moni Singh, the creator of STEM For Kids said, “Dr. C’s research on learner engagement strategies in online class environment points to important considerations and implications for any institution and schools implementing online learning. We are elated to have Dr. C join us as a franchisee and lend her expertise in education in serving students and academia in Houston”.
“I want to help every parent achieve their dream of providing the best career to their kids. At STEM For Kids, we use fun activities and real engineering projects to motivate kids choosing STEM for their education. This eventually will make them a successful creator, developer or entrepreneur. I invite all parents to join this journey of their children’s success”, says Dr. C.
