In this program, the participants will explore the muscular system and discover how it functions. The muscular system, together with the skeletal system, is responsible for the movement of the human body. While “flexing” their muscles, participants will build a model arm, learn how muscles, bones, ligaments, and tendons work together. They will investigate cardiac, smooth, and skeletal muscle types, evaluate the importance of each muscle type and how all three types of muscle interact within the body. Utilizing the engineering design process, participants will design and build a hydraulic prosthetic to model the movements of a specified joint.
